Meta-analysis shows benefit of drug-eluting stents below the knee

A meta-analysis of studies comparing the performance of drug-eluting stents vs. bare metal stents in the treatment of infrapopliteal artery disease has demonstrated favourable one-year results with drug-eluting stents. According to the study, published in the Journal of Endovascular Therapy, patients treated with drug-eluting stents had increased patency rates and freedom from target lesion revascularisation.

SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY STENTING / STENT ARTERIA SUBCLAVIA

A 67 years-old female patient with left upper limb claudication without distal pulses.  angiography control by femoral access confirming severe stenosis of the proximal portion of left subclavian artery. Control with vertebral catheter locating the position of the internal mammary artery. Later, we use wholey guidewire 0.035 " to go to the brachial artery and we deployed the balloon-expandable stent, inflating it to 14 atmospheres. Excellent angiographic and hemidynámic control. Patient recovered radial pulse.

Paciente femenina de 67 años de edad con claudicación de miembro superior izquierdo, sin pulsos distales. Control angiográfico con acceso por vía femoral que confirma estenosis severa de tercio proximal de arteria subclavia izquierda. Control con catéter vertebral ubicando la posición de la arteria mamaria interna. Posteriormente pasamos una cuerda wholey 0,035" hasta la arteria humeral y subimos el stent balón expandible, desplegándolo a 14 atmósferas. Excelente control angiográfico y hemodinámico. Paciente recuperó pulso radial.
